About David C. Jones

I am an enterprise architect and senior technology consultant whose career has spanned enterprise integration, architecture governance, regulated systems, cloud, data, security, and, increasingly, artificial intelligence.

Over more than two decades in enterprise and solution architecture roles, my work has crossed healthcare, Medicaid, banking, payments, logistics, manufacturing, government, hospitality, and senior-care environments. My experience includes building and maturing enterprise architecture practices, modernizing integration platforms, rationalizing application portfolios, managing technical debt, supporting regulated transformation, and helping organizations turn broad business objectives into practical, governed technology decisions.

A varied career has equipped me with an architectural background that includes TOGAF-aligned enterprise architecture, application portfolio management, API and SOA strategy, canonical data modeling, middleware and integration platforms, cloud architecture, identity and access management, security governance, and enterprise technology lifecycle planning. I have worked with organizations ranging from FedEx and Deloitte to healthcare, financial-services, public-sector, and digital-commerce enterprises.

My current work focuses on a question that increasingly defines the next generation of enterprise architecture: How do organizations gain the benefits of AI without losing accountability, human judgment, or control?

That question has led to my work on AI at Human Scale—an evolving body of research, architecture, and practical governance models focused on the operating layer between high-level AI principles and real-world systems. This work explores decision architecture, evidence-based governance, regulatory intelligence, agentic AI controls, delegated authority, human oversight, and the mechanisms required to make responsible AI operational rather than aspirational.

A recurring theme in this work is that trustworthy technology is only part of the problem. As AI systems become capable of acting autonomously, organizations must also understand what those systems are authorized to do, who delegated that authority, how those limits are enforced, and how that authority can be withdrawn.

Much of my work is driven by a deeply personal interest in human-centered and assistive AI. As the father and primary caregiver of an adult daughter with autism and intellectual disabilities, I have explored how AI can serve as a cognitive and practical aid—supporting independence, communication, safety, and quality of life while preserving human dignity and caregiver oversight.

That experience reinforces the principle at the center of my work:

Technology should extend human capability without diminishing human agency.

I am also the author of the forthcoming book AI at Human Scale, which brings together my experience in enterprise architecture, AI governance, regulated systems, and human-centered technology into a practical framework for governing AI in the real world.
